The Racing Form Generator

The Racing Form Generator builds the condensed data file by selecting data elements out of the Intermediate BRIS ( B ) data file. It can do this automatically or with user input for each horse. Handicapping involves choosing a past performance running line that represents the horses expected performance in today's race. Users can also add or subtract from each horse's runline score by clicking ++ or -- buttons at the top of the Racing Form Generator screen when that horses data is present on the screen.

Building the Condensed Data file
  1. Start the Racing Form Generator by clicking "Racing Form" on the Main Form.
  2. On the Racing Form Generator click File; Open, then make sure the directory with focus in the Directory List Box is the one you want. This should be c:\stk2000 if you didn't change the Install directory paths.
  3. Click the filename of the race day card in the File List box.
  4. Click Next to page through the horses.
  5. Move the mouse down the screen if you don't agree with the Auto selection indicated by the small command button.
  6. Click on the runline you like to freeze the button there.
  7. Click Next to page to the next horse.
  8. When finished with the last horse, a pop-up message box will appear. Click Ok on the message box to save the newly created condensed data file.

How to Add or Subtract points

  1. Plus and minus buttons just above Days Off on the Generator screen add points to or subtract points from the Runline Score ( data element #9 )
  2. Use this when manually handicapping to adjust the runline score based upon your own feelings about the horse.
  3. After the data contains results you can use the Analysis; Column function to see how your own feelings worked out by clicking the button above column #9 while in Column analysis mode.

How to Auto handicap all at once

  1. On the Racing Form Generator screen, click Auto.
  2. Click Ok on the pop-up message box to save the file.
  3. Alternatively you can click No on the pop-up message box to get rid of the box without saving the compact data file that was created by the handicapping process.

Capsule Review

The Racing Form Generator
selects data from the (B) format data file based upon the users Handicapping Criteria To run the Racing Form Generator click "Racing Form" on the Stk2000 menu bar at the top of the Stk2000 screen.

  1. Conversion from BRIS text to Condensed text. This involves handicapping using the Racing Form Generator to page through the horses one at a time. Stk2000 will suggest runlines for you to choose based upon your criteria setup. If you don't want to manually select runlines click the Auto button.
  2. Auto causes Stk2000 to automatically select the running lines based upon your criteria setup. Each time you change your handicapping criteria by clicking File > Setup on the racing form generator screen you  should manually handicap a race to make sure the criteria setup is suggesting the running lines you think it should reccommend.
  3. When you have handicapped all the races using the Racing Form Generator, you are finished with it and may close it by clicking the X in the upper right of the title bar.
  4. To produce the tip sheet return to the Main Form click File > Open and select the data file. Then click File > Handicap to build the text tip sheet. Then click File > Save As and enter something.html to save in html format, or enter something.txt to save in plain text format. The "something" in the example can be any valid filename. You would probably use the race day naming convention of three letters and four numbers followed by the extension .txt or .html.
